Every woman, regardless of whether they love to wear makeup or not, wants to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day. You’ll most likely be hiring a Beauty team and talking about wedding makeup well before your special day.

There is also much diversity in the degree of skin pigmentation in Asians and this ranges from very light, pale skin to more medium and deeper brown skin tones. There are various of Asian wedding makeup to choose from, and knowing which is good for you is a bigger challenge. It’s important that your team understands your skin tone and the products you should choose. To help us enrich this guide, Megan Glenn, a beauty writer, and rep for American Beauty School in NYC, shared her insights on essential bridal beauty tips for all skin tones.

Makeup is More than Only a Magic Trick

Makeup doesn’t only cover a flaw or two. It’s a personal interaction that condones the human body’s primary and most exposed organ, our skin. Besides the wedding dress, our makeup can be one of the biggest challenges for every bride. And on the first day of your new life, it’s crucial for your skin to feel and look the best.

Beauty comes in every shade. If you want your skin to consist of lighter hues, medium tones, or a deeper shade, understanding the collection of colors that make up your skin tone is a must. That’s because you need a perfectly matched foundation with a color palette of shades that will elevate your brows, eyes, lips, and cheeks.

Understanding All the Shades of You

For makeup and skin, a small number of people only have one undertone or no undertones. This can be helpful when creating the perfect look for your skin tone. There are three traditional undertones that can be applied to anyone: warm, cool, and neutral. Figuring out your skin coloration is just the start, and there are always shades within shades in every undertone. For example, cool skin tones may contain blue and pink undertones. On the other hand, warmer tones can have peach, golden or yellow undertones, and neutral skin tones with the same color as your skin.

Undertones may be tricky, and it may be difficult to tell your true undertones. If you’re unsure, look at the veins on your arm; if you see a green tint, it shows you have warm undertones. Purple or blue-tinted veins indicate cooler undertones. If you only see your veins’ outline without any coloring, you likely have a neutral skin tone.

This vein method is one of many other indicators. Other methods include taking a hard look at your jewelry collection or wardrobe. You may have a warmer skin tone if you gravitate towards yellow or gold pieces and brown hues. On the other hand, if you drift toward silver pieces for black clothes as it brings out your skin, you’ll likely have a cooler skin tone.

We’ve listed the best practices for light, medium, and deep skin tones that may help you choose the right shades or mix shades if you need to. One size will never fit all in the makeup world, and it’s important to keep this in mind when you look for the ideal shades for your beautiful skin type.

For Light Skin Tones

Fair skin tones usually have a pink or peach foundation which will work well if you have pink, blue, purple, or green undertones. A lighter skin tone may have a combination of pink and yellow. Eyeliners or jewel-toned eyeshadows will pop cool tones. Even though these colors don’t need to be drastic, an eyeshadow with purple, blue, green, or magenta coloring will elevate your eyes.

Or you may want a lighter look for a day event that includes even softer colors, while a darker look would be more suitable during the night. A neutral lip color or a darker berry color for your lips is also an excellent choice that complements cooler skin tones. Warm color also works well for cheeks if you have a light rose tone.

For Medium Skin Tones

Medium skin tones are usually a beautiful combination of gold, red and complex yellows. If you have a red or yellow base foundation, you are considered to have a medium skin tone. If you happen to have a bit of both, try mixing your foundation for that perfect look.

You can explore the vast array of eyeshadow colors, including gold, emerald, fantastic bronze, and rust colors. Purple is exquisite as a lip color, and remember to highlight your cheeks with bronzer to bring your cheekbones out.

For Deep Skin Tones

Those with deep skin tones must have a blue or/and gold base to elevate the shade’s beautiful depth. If you think you have a mix of foundations, use lighter tones in your face’s center (under your eyes and around your mouth and nose) and work outwards with the deeper-hued foundations towards the outer layer of your face.

Warm eye shades are perfectly suited for deeper skin tones, but other colors will also look amazing. It will all depend on the look you’re going for. If you’re interested in pinker shades, look for a blue or cooler base. Any lipstick shade will look gorgeous, but purple, red, and brown are the specific hues that will look outstanding. Highlighters will look well for cheeks, and trying blush underneath a bronzer will add a splash of color that will seamlessly blend with your skin.

Final Thoughts

There are endless amounts of pigment combinations that create a person’s skin tone, and as you begin your makeup journey, some mixing and matching may be required to come up with your own formula. Remember to consult with your makeup artist to help you find the right look for you, and keep in mind to update your color palette when the tanning season is right around the corner.
