Everything About Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Makeup

Kim Kardashian's wedding makeup

Everyone wondered what kind of bridal look the reality show queen, Kim Kardashian, would choose for her wedding with Kanye West in 2014. A smoky eye with nude lip? Or a classic winged liner with red lips? Every makeup look is worth it if it’s Kim Kardashian.

However, on the big day, she tied the knot with her signature look: a soft smokey eye with dark eyeliner and voluminous false eyelashes topped with a pink nude lip and sculpted cheekbones. Mario Dedivanovic, the makeup artist partly responsible for Kim’s look, has been working with her since 2008 when she was a rising star in reality TV, so it makes sense that he’s the one doing her makeup on her special day.

The Makeup

Kim’s wedding day makeup is built on a luminous base and soft contour with smokey eyeshadow and a nude lip. A pair of voluminous eyelashes offers the perfect amount of drama without taking the look too far. Kim has always been a sex symbol, but on her wedding day, she embraced the best version of herself.

Kim Baker, a commercial and celebrity makeup artist in New York, states that she has waited to see what Kim Kardashian’s makeup would look like, just like the rest of the world. “As an artist who had occasionally worked side-by-side with Mario, I knew that he wouldn’t go with something vibrant, or should I say, the perfect wedding shade!” She added.

The Artist

Makeup artist and longtime friend Mario Dedivanovic has been part of Kim’s glam squad since her days of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Dedivanovic claimed that the future Mrs. West didn’t even have a makeup trial and provided him with any inspirational photos for her wedding day makeup look. Now that’s trust! “We spoke about the dress, and she just let me do my thing without photos,” revealed Dedivanovic.

Kardashian and Dedivanovic have been working together and helped solidify Kim’s status as a beauty icon for over 15 years. After a long history together, Dedivanovic was the only person she trusted to take the lead for her bridal beauty.

The Inspiration

Dedivanovic envisioned Kim’s wedding day to be glam and ethereal, bringing out a sophisticated version of her signature look. He didn’t want to go overboard with her makeup and chose to go with something natural and timeless.

Dedivanovic stuck with the reality star’s basics: warm-toned shadows with false lashes, a subtle contour, and peachy lips. So, her bridal look was inspired by her true iconic self.

Recreating the Look

Kim Kardashian’s natural makeup look has influenced many brides who want to define their best features without making too much of a statement. People love this makeup look because it elevates her natural beauty flawlessly. It’s an easy makeup to recreate on your wedding day as it’s a step above the “no makeup” makeup look for brides who want to wear makeup instead of the makeup wearing them!

Step One: Apply Primer and Foundation

It’s important to prep your canvas for makeup first. Apply a long-wearing moisturizer and primer, which is suitable for normal to dry skin. Dedivanovic used a liquid foundation on the skin to add a luminous complexion. “I went for a dewy, radiant skin,” he said. The key to getting that glow-from-within look is by having a foundation with a satin or natural finish.

Step Two: Add Dimension with Highlighter, Blush, and Contour

Dedivanovic used Flushed highlighter and bronzer from Urban Decay after complexion to naturally sculpt her face. This helps enhance her cheekbones with contour and highlight to add a pop of color with blush.

Step Three: Blending the Eyeshadow

The makeup artist added depth to the eyes with warm-toned eyeshadows and topped off the lid with liquid eyeliner. Baker explained the proper application technique: “Apply a medium brown in the crease and blend them until the line looks seamless, then take a white shimmer eyeshadow and apply them on the eye’s corner. Applying them on the top and bottom creates a glow in the eye’s inner V. Then, follow it up with a light bine shimmer on the brow bone.

Step Four: Emphasize the Lower Lash Line

The iconic smokey was established by connecting the eyeshadow to the lower lash line. Baker says to take a deep brown eyeshadow and line the under eye and smoke it out.

Step Five: Create the Big Flickering Eyelashes

Dedivanovic revealed that he enhanced her eyelashes, which were a big part of her look. “I used individual lashes,” he added, which appeared more natural than strip lashes. Place the shorter individual lashes close to the eye’s inner corner and the longer lashes on the end to get that natural cat-eyed look.

Step Six: Top It Off with a Glossy Nude Lip

Kim couldn’t walk down the aisle and say “I do” without her signature nude lip. Dedivanovic used L’Oreal Paris in the shade Nude Ballet and topped with a creamy peach pink gloss to capture that natural shine.

Final Thoughts

Kim Kardashian’s wedding makeup, executed by her longtime makeup artist and friend Mario Dedivanovic, exemplified timeless elegance. Straying from the vibrant or dramatic, Dedivanovic leaned towards a more natural and ethereal look that enhanced Kim’s best features without overpowering her iconic beauty.

Kim Kardashian’s wedding makeup has left an indelible mark in the beauty industry, inspiring brides to embrace their own natural beauty while adding a touch of glamor on their special day. As we reflect on the timeless allure of Kim’s bridal look, it’s clear that sometimes, less truly is more when it comes to achieving a stunning and unforgettable wedding day appearance.
