Top 5 Spots for Shooting Pre-Wedding Videos in Bali

bali pre-wedding videos ideas

We’ve captured engagement sessions and weddings throughout Bali in the past few years. We’re always looking for the most unique and best locations for a pre wedding video on the island that reflects the couple.

In this article, we’ll offer the best Bali pre-wedding or engagement locations to which couples continue to flock year after year.

Note that some locations may require some fees, as it’s normal in Bali to charge extra entrance fees for doing a photoshoot or wedding videography for pre-weddings. We’ll explain every location’s regular and pre-wedding entrance fees to avoid confusion.

1. The Balinese Water Temple in Beratan Lake

The first location in this list of the best Bali pre-wedding videos or engagement locations is Bali’s famous Beratan Lake in the island’s mountainous areas, Bedugul. What makes this place unique and unlike any other is the floating temple, the Ulun Danu Temple. This temple stands tall in a shrine tower with up to 11 levels of ceilings.

The best time to go for a photo shoot at Beratan Lake and Temple should be at sunrise from 6 am. So if you’re willing to wake up early, you’ll need to depart at around 4 am from Denpasar. And if you’re also hiring a make-up artist, you’ll need to get up around 2 hours before that! So unless you’re a morning person or want to get your pre-wedding video here, this location is for you.

We suggest hiring a boat to make a dramatic video from the lake. The entrance for the photoshoot is IDR 1,000,000, and an additional IDR 150,000 to rent a boat.

2. Tegalalang Rice Terraces – The Classic Favorite

Tegalalang Rice Terraces is one of Bali’s most popular photography and videography spots, and for a good reason. This rice terrace in Ubud is probably on everyone’s Pinterest and Instagram pages regarding wedding photoshoots.

Unlike many places that have been exposed to tourism, the Tegalalang Rice Terraces is still an excellent place to shoot your video. You’ll get Bali in one frame on this rice terrace, with the beautiful green rice field and the early morning Sunday as your backdrop.

The best time to shoot your video is definitely in the morning. We know it’s a pain for some people to get up early, but we promise you that the lighting and everything are at their best! By having an early morning photoshoot, there will be fewer people here and it will be much cooler and more comfortable during this time.

We recommend wearing a long flowy dress with soft colors which will look amazing amongst the rice fields. Avoid wearing heels, as it could be dangerous due to the muddy steps.

The ticket box usually opens at 8 am, but as you’ll be shooting even earlier, there will be no entrance fees. But sometimes, the farmers will ask for a donation for having a video shoot in their rice fields, so it’s best to prepare some small cash starting from IDR 10,000 to 50,000 (USD 1-3).

3. Nungnung Waterfall – a Perfect Pre-Wedding Video in Bali’s Tallest Waterfall

If you’re interested in having a photoshoot or video shoot in the waterfalls, ensure you’re in a fit condition, as we’ll be going down and up around plenty of staircases! This especially applies to one of Bali’s tallest waterfalls – Nungnung waterfall, which is an excellent location for pre-wedding shoots. The best part about having a video or photo here is definitely the waterfall’s tremendous power, which creates a dramatic effect on every shot.

You can wear casual outfits here and avoid long dresses as they’ll obviously get wet. The regular entrance fee is IDR 10,000, while the pre-wedding entrance fee is IDR 250,000 (USD 18).

4. Batur Volcano – for Couples Who Seek Adventure

There are no places on the island that we think offer the same kind of beauty, tranquility, warmth and closeness to nature all at once as Mount Batur does. We chose this location as one of Bali’s best pre-wedding or engagement video locations because of the mountain beauty surrounded by volcanic rocks (black lava) and sand. But there’s no need to worry, as shooting in Batter volcano doesn’t require climbing the mountain, as you’ll be doing the shoot in the volcano’s surrounding area.

Be here during sunrise for the best lighting. We don’t recommend coming here during sunset.

For the fee, the local people or authorities from the Banjar will ask for IDR 250.000 (USD 18) for a pre-wedding shoot, so make sure you get the official receipt.

5. Melasti Beach – White Sands and Lush Cliffside

Melasti beach in Ungasan is one of Bali’s top beaches for photography. Melasti beach has recently been popular as the government built a road directly accessing the beach. Visitors can now access the beach easily without needing to climb down thousands of stairs! Melasti beach is identical to its neighbor, Pandawa beach. But there is less crowd in Melasti, which makes it a better choice for a pre-wedding shoot.

Numerous factors make Melasti beach a perfect spot for shooting your pre-wedding videos, including the dramatic sky-scraping stone wall, the dark Candi bentar, which perfectly contrasts the white sand and, of course, the amazing sunset. The combo of light blue and green water with white rocky cliffs makes Melasti the perfect spot for your fine art videography session.

The beach can get a little packed so plan your videos during the week or for sunrise to make the most out of your experience. We recommend coming here at sunset to catch the golden light.

Any kind of wardrobe is suitable here. You can also wear multiple dresses as there’s a convenient changing area.

The management charged up to IDR 500,000 for the photoshoot entrance. It’s a little pricey, but the management offers everything you need to make the video session more convenient. The excellent management and clean beach make Melasti beach a great place for a pre-wedding or engagement.
